Where to Land

Wide open space to hike and camp and soak up sunshine like a reptile on a rock.... but then there comes a time when a person absolutely must check email and surf the internet -- oh, and make entries into a blog. Here is what I have found so far about lodging spots:

  • Best Western - There is a commercial lodging franchise name that city people would probably recognize = Omak has a Best Western called "Best Western Peppertree Inn at Omak". (I wonder if they have all that on the stationary that is undoubtedly in their rooms?) It has an indoor heated pool and the whole deal.
  • Cabin by the River - Is one cabin available for rent near the Columbia River; complete with its own boat launch.
  • Motel Nicholas - On the main road from the highway to the downtown area.
  • Okanogan Inn & Suites - If your tastes lean towards a bit of casino action, then perhaps you'd prefer the Okanogan Inn & Suites up near the highway by Okanogan.
  • Omak Inn - The Best Western has a close neighbor called the Omak Inn, which looks to be an upscale spot as well.
  • Ponderosa Motor Lodge - There is this courtyard-style motel just outside downtown Okanogan...and some units apparently have kitchenettes.
  • Rodeway Inn & Suites - If you want to be within a couple of blocks of downtown Omak, you could stay at the Rodeway Inn & Suites -- which looks like it may have been an Econolodge in a past life.
  • Royal Motel - A small courtyard motel also on the main road from the highway to the downtown area.
Otherwise, please note that there are many other places in the area that are great spots to "get away from it all", like a cabin at Canaan Ranch outside Tonasket or the KOA campground up in Winthrop (open April through October). In addition, I am told that a stay at Sun Mountain Lodge near Twisp is truly an adventure and a classy destination getaway. There is a pretty nice listing of lodging and guest ranches listed on the Okanogan Country website.
